Passage: Psalm 8:1-9
The presents are unwrapped. Perhaps decorations have now been put away. Christmas is over. For many people, Christmas is seen as the end, but I want to suggest that Christmas is actually the beginning. The birth of Jesus wasn’t the final act in God’s redemptive plan regarding the Messiah. It was the beginning. All that happened to Mary and Joseph prior to His birth and on the day of His birth helped prepare them for the things that would lie ahead.
Mary did something very significant after the birth of Jesus and the visit of the shepherds. She spent a lot of time reflecting on all the events that she and Joseph had just experienced. Those events helped prepare her for the things that were to come. She had no idea at the time of all that would unfold in the days and years to come, but she knew through her experiences that God would see her, Joseph and Jesus through them. As you get ready to enter a new year, take a moment today to look back on things God has done in this past year to show you His glory and His grace. Christmas wasn’t the end. It was just the beginning.
