Passage: Psalm 103:1-13
She was a teenage girl from a relatively poor family. But then again, everyone was relatively poor in her area due to the heavy tax burden of the Roman government. Then she was paid a visit by an angel and soon thereafter, the Holy Spirit caused a baby to be conceived in her womb. Now, she was a pregnant teenage girl, without a husband. That wasn’t a good position to be in her day. The community would whisper. Her fiancé could have had her stoned, but at least he cared enough to simply try to find a way to divorce her quietly. Her family would be disappointed and ashamed of her.
Yet, she believed God’s Word and she knew God deeply cared about her. She went to see her cousin, Elizabeth, who was able to love and encourage her. Mary then expressed praise to God for His loving care in her life. Her faith in God’s care gave her hope and a deep sense that everything would work out. Whenever you feel alone or abandoned and the circumstances you face are tough, you need to remember, God cares about you. You are special to Him.
