Passage: Philippians 3:7-16
I recently had another birthday. A close friend wrote me a birthday greeting and jokingly asked, “Are you 67?” I replied that while I may be 59, sometimes I feel like I’ve had 67 years behind me! While I am blessed to be in good health (at least that’s what the doctor tells me), the fact is, more of my years on earth are behind me than in front of me. The only thing I don’t know is how many more years I have left. (Spoiler alert – Neither do you.) What I do know is that one day, this earthly life will come to an end and I will give an account for my life before God. King David was conscious that his life would come to an end and it led him to desire to be wise in how he lived.
For everyone who puts his or her faith in Jesus, the account we give before God is not to show if we deserve to be in heaven. It will be to show how we lived for Jesus and what kind of impact we made for Him. I hope that you had a good impact for Christ in 2018, but that year is now in the past. You can’t redo anything from last year, but you can make a fresh commitment to live wisely this year. Like the Apostle Paul, look ahead and press on toward the goal of making an impact for Christ.
