Passage: John 15:9-17

When I went college at Baylor University, I tried out for a place on the baseball team as a walk-on, non-scholarship player. I wasn’t chosen. I went through a service fraternity rush to be part of a well-known group on campus. I wasn’t chosen. After my Sophomore year, I tried out to be a yell leader. I wasn’t chosen. There were a number of other things that I was chosen for, but in all the cases of being chosen or rejected, the choice was made by others based on their thoughts of my abilities or worthiness.

That is not how God chose you or me. God did not choose   us because of our abilities and definitely not because of our worthiness. He chose us because we believed in Jesus as Lord and Savior. We can’t earn God’s love or our own salvation. Jesus did all the work for us. He lived the perfect life we could never live. He died a death He didn’t deserve to pay the penalty for our sin. He rose from the dead. He lives today. He is God’s chosen means of salvation and when we believed and received Him, we became one of God’s chosen people. You are loved by God. You are special to God. You are chosen by God.  Rejoice in that!
