Living to Please God

Pray – (1/2 minute)

Read – (3 minutes) “Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 4:1-2)

Passage: Mathew 3:13-17

A little boy asked his mother, “Mommy, why are some of your hairs white?” The mother, thinking she could use this question as a sly opportunity to get her boy to mind her more replied, “Every time you do something wrong that makes me sad, one of my hairs turns white.” The boy thought for a moment and asked, “How come ALL of grandma’s hair is white?” I think every parent can relate there, but I won’t blame all my gray/white hair on my children. What I do know is that good parents desire their children to grow up to be responsible and caring adults. Their love is not conditioned upon whether their children behave well, but they are pleased when the children do.

When you received Jesus as Lord and Savior, you became a child of God. You don’t earn heaven or merit God’s favor by anything you do, but out of love for Christ, you should desire to please God in your life and your actions. As a Heavenly Father, God takes pleasure in seeing His children live and act according to His purposes for their lives. Set your heart to please Him!
