Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you His Holy Spirit.” (1 Thessalonians 4:6b-8)
Passage: Hebrews 12:4-13
I grew up in a home with loving, Christian parents who wanted the best for their children and were determined to help teach us how to behave in this world. Of the two parents, my mother was the one who gave the spankings. Knowing that our mother would not hesitate to discipline kept me from doing many wrong things I was tempted to do. In my childhood, the fear of punishment was a good deterrent. As I grew older and matured, I moved from wanting to do good not from fear of punishment, but from a desire to please them out of love.
God loves you. He wants the very best for you. The highest motivation to please Him is out of love, but you also need to be conscious spiritually of His discipline. As a good and loving Father, the Lord will not let His children engage in sin without consequences. The discipline is not to harm you, but to help you. God wants your life to reflect Christ and be a positive witness to the world. Live to please God. It is the path to His best for you!
