Passage: Hebrews 13:17-21
When God designed the family, He established that a family would have the structure of parental leadership to help guide the children born or adopted into that family to grow into mature, responsible adults. He did the same thing for His spiritual family. He established that the church would have a structure of spiritual servant/leadership with offices of pastors and deacons to help His children become mature followers of Jesus. Paul admonished the Thessalonian believers to show respect to their pastors for the work they do.
Healthy churches show honor to their spiritual leaders. They know their pastor is human like everyone else, but they recognize the call God gave their pastor and other ministers to help them fulfill God’s purposes and to help cast a vision for the church’s ministry. A healthy church is a joy for a pastor to serve. Good church health promotes long tenures or helps develop a pastor’s gifts for expanded service. Pray for your pastor and staff and give them your respect and support. Your church will be better for it.
