Pray – (1/2 minute)

Passage: Romans 8:18-39
God has a plan and purpose for you. As you move through life, He invites you to ask Him to show you His will and He promises to reveal that will to you. (see Jeremiah 29:11-13) I think that many believers see God’s will as related to specific, major decisions, but God wants us to understand that He has a will for how we live every moment of life.
As Paul was writing the Thessalonian believers about how to live in the family of God, he began by giving them exhortations that focused on their relationships with each other horizontally. He moves from that into giving them three exhortations that are focused on their relationship with God vertically. All three are rooted in the hope we have in Jesus Christ. First, he says we are to be joyful always. Happiness is an outward reaction to good circumstances. Joy is an inward response to being in relationship with Christ. Second, he says we are to pray continually. You can talk to God all through the day. You are never truly alone. Third, he says we are to give thanks. Not because of all circumstances, but in the midst of all circumstances. God is always at work and He will take care of you. Living with hope is God’s will for you.
