Passage: Psalm 40:1-8
I heard of a preacher who began his message by having the congregation bow their heads and say the words, “Yes, Lord”. He had them repeat those words a number of times, with the volume rising to a peak crescendo that echoed in the room. After a pause, the preacher prayed, “Lord, you have our answer. Now tell us what you want us to do.”
We are all prone to respond to God like we respond to people. Before we give an answer, we want to hear what the request is. Then we evaluate whether it is something we can do or cannot do. If it is something we cannot do, we say no. If it is something we can do, we then decide if it is something we want to do. If we don’t want to do it, we say no. God will never tell you to do something that He will not enable you to do by His grace. He will never tell you to do something that is not for your good and His glory. When your answer is already determined in advance to be yes, God will lead you and use you in many ways that bring blessing to you and others. Say yes to God!
