Marriage right side up

Pray – (1/2 minute)

Read – (3 minutes) “Therefore, if it pleases the king, let him issue a royal decree and let it be written in the laws of Persian and Media, which cannot be repealed, that Vashti is never again to enter the presence of King Xerxes. Also, let the king give her royal position to someone else who is better than she. Then when the king’s edict is proclaimed throughout all his vast realm, all the women will respect their husbands, from the least to the greatest.” (Mark 16:7-8)

Passage: Ephesians 5:21-33

Xerxes pride was offended when Vashti refused to obey his command to come and allow herself to be put on display in front of thousands of drunken men. Probably due to the jealousy of his officials at her influence over Xerxes, they saw her refusal as an opportunity to remove her from that influence. They recommended that he take away her position and give it to someone else. God used that upside down decision to pave the way for Esther’s rise and ultimate preservation of His people.

God designed marriage to be a partnership of co-equals. In that relationship, a husband is to love his wife with a sacrificial love that is a picture of Christ and the church. In a Christ-centered marriage, both spouses will seek to serve each other instead of demanding their own way. Do marriage right side up and impact your world.
