Passage: Psalm 86:1-13
The Jewish historian, Josephus, claimed that around 400 young ladies were taken from their families and placed into Xerxes’ harem as part of his plan to select a Queen for the northern capital of Susa. Those girls would never have husbands of their own and they were all technically married to Xerxes. Though they lived in luxury, they were slaves of Xerxes and they were there to meet his own sensual desires. Among them all, Esther stood out and shined like a star.
One of the reasons was that she was secure in who she was. That security came from knowing she was loved and that she was special. Though her parents had died, she was raised in a home filled with love. Mordecai showed that by seeking to protect her and continuing to check on her after she was taken. She also grew up with a faith that she was deeply loved by God. If you have received Christ, you are a child of God. Even if you didn’t receive unconditional love in your home, you have it from God. Be secure in who you are in Christ and shine like a star for Him!
