Read – (3 minutes) “When the turn came for Esther to go to the king, she asked for nothing other than what Hegai, the king’s eunuch who was in charge of the harem, suggest. And Esther won the favor of everyone who saw her. She was taken to King Xerxes in the royal residence in the tenth month, the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. Now the king was attracted to Esther more than to any of the other women, and she won his favor and approval more than any of the other virgins. So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.” (Esther 2:15-17)
Passage: Proverbs 25:6-7; 1 Peter 3:3-4
We live in a “me” generation where many people put the focus on themselves instead of others. Technology exacerbates this with the capacity to take “selfie” photos that can then be posted to social media. There is nothing inherently wrong with taking a picture of oneself, but it is not unusual to read about someone taking a selfie on the edge of a cliff or a high building and falling to his or her death. That is a high price to pay for focusing on oneself.
In the midst of a self-focused world, God calls us to be self-less. One reason Esther shined out over all the other young women is that she did not grab what she could to enrich or elevate herself before she was called to the palace by Xerxes. Her self-less attitude combined with her submissive spirit and secure heart caused her to shine. Be self-less and let God raise you up to shine like a star for Him!
