But Esther had kept secret her family background and nationality just as Mordecai had told her to do, for she continued to follow Mordecai’s instructions as she had done when he was bringing her up.” (Esther 2:19-20)

Passage: Ephesians 5:21-6:4

I’ll never forget the funeral I conducted for the brother of a man who was an active member of a church I pastored. I was told that the man was a wonderful Christian. His brother said that he was very giving to others and spent a lot of time visiting people and sharing the gospel. When I arrived at the funeral home, I met his three adult children. I expressed my condolences and remarked about the things I had heard. Their reaction startled me. They said their father was a mean man at home. He deprived his family of basic needs in order to “serve” the Lord. His attitude and actions caused all three to reject Christianity.

The real test of Christianity is how it is lived at home. The first step to living a godly life and impacting your world is to show the love of Christ to your family. They are the closest ones to you and they are your first responsibility. Mordecai had his greatest impact on his world because he did a great job raising Esther. There are many ways and places to serve Christ, but the most important one is in your own home.
