Be faithful in protecting God’s church

Pray – (1/2 minute)

Read – (3 minutes) “Have we not all one Father? Did not one God create us? Why do we profane the covenant of our fathers by breaking faith with one another? Judah has broken faith. A detestable thing has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem: Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the Lord loves, by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.” (Malachi 2:10-11)

Passage: Psalm 119:97-104

Would you ever fill up a bucket with mud and throw the mud across the floors and on the walls of your home? No, you would not. When your children made a mess in the house, did you praise them and encourage them to do it some more? No, you did not. If your children began yelling at each other, would you cheer them on? No, you would not. Those things you do not want to happen in your home or in your family, God does not want to happen in His house or family either.

The church is God’s people. In Malachi, we hear God calling us to protect the church. We are to protect the church relationally. All believers have Jesus in them and Jesus in one loves Jesus in all. We need to show love for one another so the world will see that we are Christ’s disciples. (John 13:35) We also need to protect the church theologically by holding firm to the gospel and not conforming it to the world.
