Read – (3 minutes) “ ‘Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse – the whole nation of you – because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.’ ” (Malachi 3:8-10)
Passage: Deuteronomy 14:22-29
The people of Malachi’s day were shocked to hear God say that they had robbed Him, because they knew how it felt to be robbed. What they had forgotten or purposely ignored was that God is the owner of everything. He could demand it all be returned to Him, but He established a stewardship plan for His people that would both help them avoid materialism and greed as well as be a partner with Him in ministry.
God’s plan is for us to return a tithe and give offerings out of what we receive. All you have comes because God gave your abilities to earn it, or someone else gave it to you. One day, all you have will be passed on, used up, or thrown away. God wants you to be steward. He knows giving can be hard to learn so He even says you can test Him and then He promises blessing in return. Return a tithe and offering to God and be blessed!
