Passage: Matthew 3:13-16

A Baptist pastor asked a man why he had not been in church lately. The man said that he didn’t feel comfortable wearing his old, tattered clothes and he couldn’t afford to buy anything new. The pastor went to a member who owned a clothing store and arranged to fit the man with a new suit. The man got the suit, but the following Sunday he still wasn’t at church. The pastor called him and asked, “Did you get the suit?” The man replied, “Oh, yes. It is a fine suit.” The pastor asked, “Then why weren’t you at church last Sunday?” the man answered, “That suit made me look so prosperous, I joined the Episcopal church!”

There is not an outward dress code for being a member of a local church, but there is an inward dress code. That dress code is to be clothed with Christ by receiving Him as Lord and Savior. The testimony of faith is given through believer’s baptism. Baptism doesn’t make a person a Christian. It is a public identification with Christ and shows how God washed away your sin when you put your faith in Jesus. Come to Jesus just like you are and dress up through faith in Him. His clothing fits perfectly!
