Passage: Psalm 128:1-5

A few days ago, we said goodbye to 2019 and welcomed in 2020. The start of a new year is traditionally a time when people make resolutions to improve their lives. The most common resolutions are: exercise more; lose weight; eat healthier; learn a new skill or hobby; save more and spend less; quit smoking. All of these would be beneficial to a person who does them, but most people who are not already doing those things will not keep their resolutions. The main reasons for failure are they don’t keep their resolutions long enough to change their habits, their resolution list is too long and they don’t have a plan.

I believe two more reasons people fail is that their resolutions are not tied to a purpose in life and their resolutions are not seeking true balance in life. Jesus is our example of balanced resolutions with purpose. He grew emotionally, intellectually, spiritually and relationally. God wants you to enjoy life to its fullest and He desires for you to fulfill your purpose for being here. Check your resolutions for balance and put Jesus first. He’ll help you succeed in the rest.
