Passage: 2 Corinthians 12:1-10
A man went to his doctor and the doctor said, “You need to go on a strict diet and start exercising. You’re out of shape.” The man replied, “I’m not out of shape. I’m in shape!” The doctor exclaimed, “How do you figure that?” The man said, “I’m in the shape of a pear.” That may be true, but a pear shape is not the best physical shape to be in. Getting in physical shape requires regular exercise, however, no matter how much you exercise, as the body gets older, the body will get weaker.
Getting our physical body in shape has application to our spiritual life, with the exception that our spiritual life can grow stronger and stronger as we get older. In 2 Corinthians 4:16, Paul said, “Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” God’s strength is available to you and it comes through His grace that is in Jesus. The call of discipleship is a call to rely on God’s grace. No matter what you face in life, God’s grace is sufficient and will give you the strength to deal with it if you will rely on His grace and trust Him through it. Rely on His grace and stay in strong spiritual shape each day!
