Pray – (1/2 minute)
Read – (3 minutes) “You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings, . . . yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,”(2 Timothy 3:10-12)
Passage: Isaiah 43:1-3
Paul told Timothy that believers should not be surprised when they encounter opposition and persecution. The current crisis period, when churches are under government orders not to worship in person, is not persecution. We are not being told not to worship. We are simply being told not to gather in large groups. Doing this is a part of the preventative response to keep the COVID-19 pandemic from exploding. However, deep persecution does happen. Around the world, there are places where identifying as a Christian can mean imprisonment or even death. Pray for the persecuted church today.
Also, be encouraged. Paul’s triumphant word to Timothy was “the Lord rescued me from all of them.” Christians don’t get a pass from tough times, viruses or other illnesses. What we do get is the confidence we will not face them alone. God loves you. He will take care of you. Trust in the Lord and rest in His care. He will see you through.
