Passage: Psalm 116:1-19
In an effort to slow the rate of infection spread of the COVID-19 virus, countries around the world shut down most of their economies and ordered most people to shelter in place. The governments of all these countries have the authority to demand obedience to their directives either by the authority given them under a constitution in a free society or by the force of power they exert in a communist/dictatorial society. In either case, while government leaders can force people to obey them, they cannot force people to love them. Love is a voluntary choice.
Moses laid out principles for God’s people to put them in position to receive God’s blessings. The first thing He said is that we should love God with all our heart, soul and strength. It was a call to love God with the intensity of our will and emotions. It was a call to love God with our innermost being by taking interest in His Kingdom. It was a call to love God with our strength by investing ourselves in service. God created you to love you and He wants you to love Him back. He doesn’t demand your love, but He does deserve your love. Be devoted to Him with love and watch what He does to improve your home.
