Passage: Psalm 40:1-10
Florence Nightingale was born into a wealthy British family in 1820. As a girl, she received Jesus as Lord and Savior. At the age of 17, she felt God was calling her to become a nurse. Her family was opposed to that, but she felt so committed to the call that she began to study privately. In her mid-20’s, she was able to determine her own course for life and she formally entered nurses training and became a nurse in London. During the Crimea War, which was from 1853-1857, the British government allowed women nurses to serve near the battlefield for the first time. Florence answered the call and recruited 38 nurses to join her. She called her group the “handmaidens of the Lord”. On the battlefield, Florence developed and implemented processes that reduced deaths from infections by 75%. Today, she is considered the mother of modern nursing and much of what she implemented is still used today. Years later, she was asked the secret of her success. She replied, “I have kept nothing back from God.”
Just as God had plans for Florence Nightingale, He has plans for you. He has a mission for you to go into your world and shine the light of Christ wherever you are and in whatever you do. Be on mission for Christ and watch Him use you in mighty ways.
