Passage: Psalm 119:105-112

Abraham knew that God had a plan for his life. He knew that the plan involved him moving to the land of Canaan and that the plan would include him having a son who would become the line for the Messiah. He was seventy-five when that plan was revealed to him, but over the next two decades, Abraham had a few times when he got off track. He went to Egypt during a famine and almost lost his wife. He later had a child with Sarah’s handmaiden, Hagar, and that has resulted in the Israel/Arab conflict still going on today.

When Abraham was ninety-nine God let him know specifically that his wife, Sarah, would be the birth mother for the promised son. God also told Abraham that He wanted Abraham to consistently live a life that reflected the relationship he had with the Lord. That command is consistent with three general things that God’s plan includes. One is a salvation that comes through faith. Two is sanctification, which means becoming more like Jesus. Three is service in taking responsibility to be a blessing in our families, at our work and to our church and community. Focus on these and God will reveal more specific plans along the way.
