Hold on to God’s Promises

He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, ‘It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.’ Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.” (Hebrews 11:17-19)

Passage: Psalm 61:1-8

The day Isaac was born had to be the happiest day of Abraham’s life. Isaac was a miracle baby and the fulfillment of the promise God made to Abraham twenty-five years earlier. Abraham then watched Isaac grow to become a young man. He had dreams of living long enough to see Isaac get married and have children of his own. Then one day, God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac as a burnt offering, which was an offering showing total commitment and surrender to God. The key to understanding Abraham’s response is in Hebrews 11:19 – “Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead.” Abraham knew God’s plan. He had seen God’s provision. Now he held on to God’s promise and trusted that God would keep His word.

There will be times in life when you will wonder how God will work things out. It may seem that a dream He gave you is about to die. During those times, it is vital you do what Abraham did. Know that God has a plan for you. Recall the ways He has provided in the past and trust His provision for the present. Then hold on to His promises. God has never lied. He will never lie. What He says, He will do. God always keeps His word.
