     Passage: Psalm 119:97-104

God created you with a mind capable of learning and reasoning. Formal education is an important aspect of that, but so is being a life-long learner. Many of our nation’s founders saw the need to educating the general population instead of just the elite and wealthy. That impetus came from Christian principles that saw the need to learn to read and write and important for life, but especially important to allow any person to read and study the Bible for himself. Baptist Christians have always been proponents of education for all people regardless of their background or socio-economic status. We fully affirm Solomon’s proverb that points out the value of education and knowledge.
We also affirm Solomon’s perspective on the limitations of knowledge and learning which he shared in Ecclesiastes. Knowledge cannot change a person from being a sinner. Jesus can. Knowledge cannot give true significance. Jesus does. Knowledge cannot give true security. Jesus does. Learn all you can and keep being a life-long learner. God created you with that capacity. Just be sure that you acknowledge Christ as the source of all truth and find your full value and security in your relationship with Him!
