     Passage: Colossians 3:1-4

The ancient Greek civilization is known for many things, but one of the things it is best known for is its admiration of the human body and athletic prowess. The modern Olympics are based off the first Olympic games in Greece that began in the 8th century B.C. in Olympia, Greece. With their emphasis on the human body, the Greek culture prized sculptors who began carving out statues that presented what they considered the ideal image of the human body. These statues were placed in their cities to keep that image in front of the people as a motivation for them.
God has given us an example to follow that is far higher and greater than any statue. It is the example of Jesus. Luke tells us that He grew in wisdom (intellectually), in stature (physically) and in favor with God (spiritually) and with man (relationally). One key to following the example of Jesus is to set goals in each of those areas for your own life. Those goals will be motivators for you to exercise self-control and discipline in order to achieve those goals and be the best you can be. If you don’t already have goals written out, ask God to help direct your mind and then write out some goals in each of those areas. You can reach those goals for Him!
