“ ‘How will this be,’ Mary asked the angel, ‘since I am a virgin?’ The angel answered, ‘ The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.’ ” (Luke 1:34-38)
Passage: Mark 11:20-25
A country doctor went to a farm to help deliver the 11th child of the family. The doctor told the farmer that he almost hit a duck on the way there. The farmer replied, “That wasn’t a duck. It was the stork with its legs worn down.” Mary knew babies weren’t delivered by storks, but she also knew that it was biologically impossible to conceive a baby without the involvement of both male and female and she had never been intimate with a man.
Gabriel explained that God Himself would be the father of the Messiah. The baby would be fully human with Mary as His mother. The baby would be fully divine with God as His father. The world denies that Jesus could be virgin born, but that is essential to Him being our Savior. He came into the world without a sin nature, but with a free will as a human to give into temptation. He never did and therefore He was able to pay our penalty for sin. Thank God for the miracle of His birth and celebrate the fact that nothing is impossible with God.
