“ ‘I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May it be to me as you have said,’ Then the angels left her.” (Luke 1:38)
Passage: Matthew 25:34-40
As Mary listened to the angel, Gabriel, explain how God Himself would be the father of Jesus, Mary processed the information and the implications. She knew it was doubtful that anyone would believe that she had not been unfaithful to Joseph. She knew that Jewish law meant she could be ostracized, expelled or even stoned by the community. Yet, despite all that, she was willing to join God in His Work. She said “Yes”!
There are times you may wonder how or why God would use you. Mary’s experience of being the chosen mother of Jesus shows that God does not choose to use people based on outward conditions such as the size of their town or their socio-economic position. He looks at the heart and the willingness to be used. Mary had that and you can too. The following poem has stuck with me through the years:
I am only one, but I am one.
I can’t do everything, but I can do something.
That which I can do, I ought to do.
That which I ought to do, by God’s grace, I will do.
Respond with commitment to God’s call, no matter how small it may seem and say yes. He will use you to impact the world.
