“His mercy extends to those who fear Him, from generation to generation. He has performed might deeds with His arm; He has scatted those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. . . He has helped His servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, even as He said to our father.’ ” (Luke 1:50-55)
Passage: Psalm 107:3-43
One time when Jesus was criticized for healing a man on the Sabbath, He replied by saying, “My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I too, am working.” (John 5:17) God is not a distant observer in the world He created. History should be viewed through the lens of being His-Story as God is always at work in the midst of the circumstances in this world to bring His plans about. For example, I recently read an article in The Western Journal describing the conversion to Christ of Muslim men in Gaza. God is working even in the midst of war.
Mary was encouraged as she sang a song of praise to God. In that song, she rejoiced in God’s goodness to her and then she recounted God’s work in the world. Whenever you feel discouraged, do what Mary did. Count your blessings and then recount how God has worked in history to fulfill His promises and grow His Kingdom. All the things in this world are temporary. The things of God’s Kingdom are eternal. Focus on those things and be encouraged in your heart today.
