Passage: Deuteronomy 6:1-12
I often joke that I had a drug problem growing up. I was drug to church on Sunday morning and drug back on Sunday night. I was drug to church on Wednesday’s and anytime in between that there was a church activity. One the school front, I was also raised by mean parents. They insisted that I learned how to show respect to my elders by saying “yes sir” or “no sir” and “yes ma’am” or “no ma’am”. I was taught to say please and thank-you and if I got in trouble at school, they didn’t react first by blaming the teacher. They disciplined me at home for not doing what I was told to do. I am grateful that I had that kind of parents.
I am also grateful for Christian friends growing up. I was blessed to have a strong youth ministry in the churches we attended in each place we lived and I had strong Christian friends in college and throughout my adult years. Both of these areas of relationships, in family and with friends were key parts of shaping me to be the man I am today. Your life is shaped by family and friends as well. Be grateful for the positive relationships you have.
