Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Jesus knew the that the Father had put all things under His power and that He had come from God and was returning to God; so He got up from the meal, took off His outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around His waist. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet, frying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him.” (John 13:3-5)
Passage: Psalm 112:1-10
Jesus did not have to wash His disciples’ feet. He was and is, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the Sovereign God over the universe. He washed their feet because He chose to. Jesus intentionally chose the most menial task that could be given to a household servant. It was so menial that a Jewish family that had enough resources to have household help, would not assign it to a servant who was a Jew. It would only be assigned to a Gentile servant. Yet, it is the thing Jesus did.
In Philippians 2:5-8, Paul challenges believers to take the attitude of Jesus who “made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant . . .” That attitude results in action that is the foundation of true greatness. When you make serving others an intentional lifestyle, God will not only be pleased, but He will also use you to change lives for the better and make an eternal impact in His Kingdom. Serve like Jesus.
