Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the Feast. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. ‘Sir,’ they said, ‘we would like to see Jesus.’ Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus. Jesus replied, ‘The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.’ ” (John 12:20-24)
Passage: John 10:7-18
In the earliest days of His public ministry, Jesus went home to Nazareth. During Sabbath worship, He stood up and read from Isaiah 61, which was a Messianic prophecy. When the people realized He was claiming that He was the fulfillment of that prophecy, they took Him to a cliff on the edge of town to throw Him off. Luke 4:30 says, “But He walked right through the crowd and went on His way.” That is because it wasn’t His time to die. In John 7, religious leaders tried to seize Him, but they weren’t able to because John says, “His time had not yet come.” (v. 30)
Those were just two instances of many where people tried to arrest or kill Jesus, but that was never going to happen until Jesus knew it was time. In John 10:18 He said, “No one takes my life, but I lay it down of my own accord.” The desire of Greeks to receive Jesus was an affirmation to Him that the time had come for Him to finish the work He came to do. Jesus was always in control of when He would die on the cross and then be raised on the third day. He gave Himself willingly for you. In your service, give yourself willingly for him and show people Jesus in your life.
