Know Jesus as Your Master

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducee’s, the Pharisees got tighter. One of them, an expert in the law, tested Him with this question: ‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ ” (Matthew 22:34-36)
      Passage: Matthew 16:13-16

The Sadducee’s and Pharisees were two rival groups of Jewish religious leaders. They had different views on what was most important for the Jews and different views on how to interpret scripture. Most of the time, the two groups did not get along, but both groups agreed on at least one thing. The hated Jesus and saw Him as a threat to their religious control over the people. After the Sadducee’s had failed to trap Jesus in a question regarding marriage, the Pharisees came up with a question about the law and their spokesman began with calling Jesus, “Teacher”.
Jesus certainly was a teacher. He was the teacher of all teachers. He spoke with authority and explained God’s Word clearer than any prophet or priest before Him. However, the Pharisee who addressed Jesus, didn’t address Jesus with deep respect and above all, he rejected that Jesus was the Messiah and the Master Teacher for all time. How different was that than Peter’s response when Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter responded, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus is the Christ. He is our Master. When you know Him as Master, you can make an impact on the world.
