Passage: Psalm 48:9-14
A man and woman had been married many years, when the wife asked her husband, “Do you love me?” He asked why she wanted to know that. She replied, “I never hear you say it?” Her husband asked, “Didn’t I say it when we were married?” She answered, “Yes”. He responded, “Well, if I change my mind, I’ll let you know.” That is not good way to have a healthy marriage. God wired us for relationship. We were designed to love and be loved. In the same way that a healthy, long-lasting marriage will express love verbally and visually, a strong spiritual relationship with God will express love for Jesus in word and deed.
After His resurrection, Jesus appeared multiple times to His disciples over a 40-day period. During one of those times, Jesus came after Peter had decided to go fishing and a few of the disciples went along. After catching nothing, Jesus appeared and told them to throw the net on the other side of the boat. When they caught a huge net full of fish, Peter recognized that it was Jesus. He came to the shore, ate with Jesus and then heard Jesus ask him, “Do you love me?” It was a question Peter needed to answer in order to have the impact Jesus wanted him to have. It’s a question you and I need to answer as well.
