Passage: Psalm 50:1-6
When my daughter, Melissa, was in kindergarten, I was looking forward to doing the dad-thing of getting to help with school work. One day she came home with a little project to do. I offered to help, but was rebuffed, when she replied, “Daddy, you can’t help me. You don’t know anything. You’re not in kindergarten!” I don’t know about you, but I admit there are many things I don’t know. What I do know, is that if I want to learn how to do something, I want to learn from someone who is an expert.
The believers in the church at Corinth had many problems that were the result of taking their eyes of Jesus. They needed to learn how to live the way God designed, so one thing Paul told them to do was to follow his example and learn from Him, but he then emphasized that his example was rooted in following the example of Christ. Jesus said in Matthew 11:29, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me…” Jesus gave us the example of how to live life once we believe and receive Him as Lord and Savior. The first example He gave was when He went to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. He shocked John that He came, but He set the example for us in why it was important even though it did not make us a child of God. Baptism is a living picture. Jesus showed much by being baptized and every believer that follows His example shows a living picture as well.
