Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. ‘I am about to go the way of all the earth,’ he said, ‘So be strong, show yourself a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in His ways, and keep His decrees and commands, His laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go,” (1 Kings 2:1-3)
Passage: Psalm 144:1-15
Before his died, King David gave a charge to Solomon. He fully understood that the future of the kingdom of Israel depended upon each generation rising up with devotion to God, dedication to their families and discipline in their lives. What he outlined in his challenge to Solomon was needed by every generation. The sad reality is that, while Solomon served the Lord well in many ways, he also failed in many ways. One of the saddest was his failure as a husband and father, for after he died, his son, Rehoboam, rejected God’s ways and the result was the division of the kingdom of Israel and trouble for the rest of their history.
You are building a legacy for the future. What kind of legacy is up to you. The greatest inheritance a man can leave is a legacy of faithfulness and commitment to Christ and a legacy of love and care for his family. Set the pace with your devotion, your dedication, and your discipline. Future generations will be blessed because of you.
