Finding Pleasure in the Son

Pray – (1/2 minute)

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” (1 Timothy 6:17-18)
      Passage: Psalm 16:1-11

God is not a kill-joy. He wants you to experience pleasure in life. The problem Solomon discovered is that, when pleasures are pursued apart from God’s purposes, life will not find deep satisfaction and meaning. The solution for meaning is not found under the sun. It is found in the Son, Jesus Christ.
There are three things that God wants you to do in order experience meaning and deep satisfaction. First, exercise faith. Trusting Jesus and living life with purpose for His Kingdom is the key to fulfillment in life. Second, express love. Love is express in giving of your time, talents, and treasures in service to God, family, and others. True riches and happiness are not determined by what you have in your hands, but by who you hold in your heart. Third, enjoy life. God loves you. He enjoys seeing you enjoy what He has made and what He gives you, just as you enjoy seeing your children or grandchildren enjoy things. Set your priorities in line with God’s Word. Keep a godly perspective on the things of this world and let your pleasures be found in Him.
