Passage: Psalm 84:1-12
Surveys are taken of Americans regularly about a wide variety of things. In early 2024, one survey asked, “In general, are you satisfied or dissatisfied with the way things are going in your personal life at this time?” Satisfaction is a confident acceptance that your desires and expectations have been met. Less than half (47%) said they were very satisfied and 21% said they were dissatisfied.
Solomon did not need a survey to answer the question of satisfaction. He had taken a lifelong journey with the gift God had given him to have wisdom and capacity to understand and analyze human nature. He decided to explore every aspect of life without God in the equation. He summarized his journey in Ecclesiastes 5-6 with four areas of life that people may find some human satistifaction. One of those areas was in gaining more money and having more possessions. Like all the rest, he concluded that everything under the sun can only give temporary satisfaction, but nothing without God in the equation can ever give true satisfaction. God wants you to be satisfied, but the starting point is to find your satisfaction in Him.
