Value the finish over the Start, self-control over Anger, and the present over the Past

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools. Do not say, ‘Why were the old days better than these?’ For it is not wise to ask such questions.” (Ecclesiastes 7:8-10)
Passage: Ephesians 4:25-32, Isaiah 43:18-21
Solomon spent much of his life looking to see if true meaning and satisfaction could be found in this world apart from God. After he concluded that everything was ultimately meaningless apart from God, he began to share what he found that gives life meaning and purpose. God gives a new perspective that is different from the world and in our text today, Solomon shares perspective of three values that we should have in our lives.
The first is to value the finish over the start. Many start off well, but finish poorly. Look ahead to how you want to finish life and the legacy you want to leave. The second is to value self-control over anger. We live in an angry world, where it seems many are quick to lash out. A wise person will seek to let God help him control his emotions and will be patient in letting God be the judge. The third is to value the present over the past. God is always at work doing something new. Embrace the present and watch God do fresh things in your life and church.
