Value Wisdom over Wealth and God over Self
Pray – (1/2 minute)
Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good things and benefits those who see the sun. Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: that wisdom preserves the life of its possessor. Consider what God has done: Who can straighten what He has made crooked?” (Ecclesiastes 7:11-13)
Passage: 1 Timothy 6:3-10, Matthew 22:36-40
Solomon had it all. He had the capacity to gain knowledge and understanding of human nature more than anyone else. He had the ability to amass wealth greater than anyone else. In his journey to see if meaning could be found apart from God, Solomon came to the conclusion that the best perspective for a person to have is God’s perspective about what is best and most important for life.
One thing Solomon found is that wisdom is better than wealth. We live in a materialistic society and while money is needed and can be a blessing, having wisdom is better than having money. Wisdom will help you keep your life in balance and it will help you manage the resources God brings to your hands.
Another thing he found was that we should value God over self. This world and our lives are upside down and crooked because of sin. No person can straighten things out, but God can. Put Christ first in your life and let Him guide you in living the life He designed and wants you to live.
