Distinct Joy in Christ

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23)    
      Passage: Psalm 107:1-9

Happiness is a wonderful, natural emotion that God gave us that we feel about things that we enjoy. In the world, it comes and goes and the happiness of any given moment can be shattered in a moment by circumstances that cause you hurt or grief. But there is something that God gives us that is not dependent on the circumstances that happen to you. It is available through Christ who lives within you and it is one of the characteristics of the fruit of the Spirit that makes you distinct from the world. It is joy.

Joy is an inner assurance that God is in control and that you will praise Him regardless of circumstances. It does not negate grief and hurt that is felt when there is pain and loss. Proverbs 14:10 says, “Your joy is your own. Your bitterness is your own. No one can share them with you.” (GNT) Happiness is external. Joy is internal. Happiness depends on what happens around you. Joy depends on who you have within you. When you have Jesus in you, choose joy.
