Passage: Psalm 16:1-11
The Grand Canyon is an incredible place to visit and see with one’s own eyes. Carved out by the Colorado River, it averages about 4000 feet deep and 10 miles wide between the north and south sides. Suppose the north side represents God and Heaven and the south side represents where man is. Romans 3:23 tell us, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Trying to get to heaven on our own goodness would be like trying to jump across the Grand Canyon. No matter how good someone might be athletically, the world record for long jump is around 32 feet, so no one could jump 10 miles.
Because of Jesus, we don’t have to worry about trying to make it to heaven on our own merit. Jesus did all the work to provide our salvation. He lived the perfect life that we couldn’t live. He then died a death on the cross that He didn’t deserve, but He did it as a substitute for us to pay the penalty for sin. He was buried and raised the third day and offers eternal life to anyone who believes in Him. When you believed in Christ, the Holy Spirit came to dwell in you permanently. No matter what happens to you, nothing can remove His Spirit or cancel His gift of eternal life. That assurance provides distinct joy in His salvation for you.
