Passage: Philippians 2:4-11
God wired us to respond to praise. Expressing appreciation and admiration to someone for a job well done is something that we should look to do for those around us. However, one of the most distinct attributes of gentleness/meekness is that is seeks to go good for others and to live a godly life regardless of any recognition from people.
Jesus was fully divine as well as fully human. He had stepped out of the glory of heaven, to become a man and offer Himself as a perfect sacrifice to pay the penalty of sin for everyone. Paul tells us in Philippians 2 that, while He walked on earth, He took attitude of a servant instead of demanding that He treated with royalty befitting a king. That is what He is due now. He is Lord. One day everyone will bow before Him, but only those who confess Him while they live on earth will spend eternity with Him in heaven. The greatest recognition for service will be “Well done” coming from Jesus. When He gives you a task, say yes and serve Him with all your heart and strength. If someone recognizes that, be appreciative, but don’t get upset if no one does. God sees. He rewards. In meekness, let that be enough for you.
