“In a loud voice she exclaimed, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear? By why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? . . . Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!’ ”  (Luke 1:42-45)

Passage: Romans 8:14-17

The encouragement Mary received did not end with a recognition of who Jesus was. Elizabeth was inspired to remind Mary of who she was as the mother of Jesus. She was blessed. The first two words translated “blessed”, which Elizabeth used, indicated that Mary was the recipient of divine favor and grace from God. The third word translated “blessed” was the same word Jesus would use in the Beatitudes. It describes an attitude of happiness that comes from a realization of the favor one has from being in relationship with God.

As you go through this Christmas season, remember who you are in Christ. If you have believed in Jesus and received Him, you are a child of the living God. You are a joint-heir with Christ and the object of God’s love. It does not matter where you came from, what your family background is, what human accomplishments you may have or anything you have God. God loves you. He knows you. He is for you. You are blessed!
