Passage: Psalm 116:1-19
The foundation of everything the disciples did came out of their love for Jesus. The crucifixion and burial of Jesus crushed their hopes and dreams, but it didn’t take away their love for Him. When He died, it simply meant that they lost their expectation of seeing Him change the world. But then Sunday came, and the resurrection changed everything. They encountered the resurrected Lord Jesus, and they knew without a doubt that He was God in the flesh, the promised Messiah.
With their love for Him and recognition of who He is, they did what He told them to do, and they went out to a mountain to meet Him. When Jesus appeared, they worshiped Him. They expressed their love for Him in giving Him the highest place of value in their lives. When John tells us that “some doubted”, the word he used was not a normal one of doubt meaning unbelief. It was a word that is more in line with “I know this is real, but it still seems to good to be true.” They were ready to hear from Jesus out of love and love is the greatest motivation you can have as well.
