Passage: Psalm 98:1-6
America is the land of opportunity and many people take that opportunity to start their own businesses. However, opportunity does not guarantee long term success and around 50% of new businesses do not make it 5 years or more. There are many reasons for that. Some include, not getting enough customers, not having enough capital, not having good plans and not adapting to change. Those all contribute, but there is another one. Some businesses do not get a clear vision of why they are doing what they do.
In 2019, around 3000 churches that started in America, but around 4500 churches disbanded and closed their doors. Many of the characteristics of a failed small business can be be seen in the reason, but not having a clear understanding of their purpose is a large one. Jesus did not make it complicated to understand. He gave us a great commandment which calls us to love God and love people. He then gave us a great commission, which points out that loving people means loving God’s world. Pray that His purpose will be fulfilled in your life and your local church.
