Go and Do Likewise

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “ ‘Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?’ The expert in the law replied, ‘The one who had mercy on him.’ Jesus told him, ‘Go and do likewise.’ ” (Luke 10:36-37)
      Passage: 1 John 4:7-21

I am grateful for the upbringing I had in having parents who had us active in our local Baptist church wherever we lived. We had Sunday School, morning worship, Sunday evening Training Union and evening worship. We were back on Wednesday night and any other time the church had an event. We memorized the books of the Bible and memorized scripture in Bible Drills and learned hymns through the years. All that was great, but it would mean nothing if I didn’t know Jesus personally.
The Pharisees knew the Scriptures. What they didn’t know was what God really wanted. He wanted their hearts. If He has your heart, He can have your head to learn His Word and He can have your hands to minister to others. But the heart is always first. Therefore, God makes the learning simple. Love God and love people. If you do those two things, you will end up following what God says to do, even if you don’t have all of the rest memorized. The Samaritan man got it right. As Jesus said, “Go and do likewise.”
