Pray for your Country and Proclaim the Gospel
Pray – (1/2 minute)
Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “I urge, then first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
Passage: Romans 10:8-17
Caesar Nero became Emperor of Rome in 54 A.D. when he was 16 years old. His reign would end in 68 A.D., when he committed suicide after his power was stripped and he was condemned to execution by the Roman Senate. Nero was a godless, despicable tyrant, yet he was the king who Paul told believers to pray for. We in the USA are blessed to live in a free nation, but there are millions of believers around the world who live under the tyranny of godless leaders. The same words of Paul apply now as they did then, both here in the USA and every other country in the world. As citizens we are called to pray for our country and its leaders.
As citizens of God’s Kingdom, we are also called to proclaim the gospel. God desires all people to be saved. He doesn’t exclude despots. He doesn’t pick and choose some to be saved and some to be condemned. Salvation is available to anyone who will put his/her faith in Jesus. Having a relationship with Jesus carries privileges of direct access to God in prayer, to the assurance of eternal life and more. It also carries a responsibility to share the gospel. Pray and proclaim and live well as a dual citizen in this world for Christ.
