Passage: 2 Corinthians 9:6-11
One of the reasons giving is a hard spiritual discipline to develop is that our human nature keeps wanting to pull us away from the things of God. Our human nature focuses on earthly things and views money as our own and sees it as security. The Holy Spirit within us as believers gives us the nature of Christ who focuses on eternal things. The new nature views money as provided by God and recognizes that we are stewards of all He gives us. He wants us to enjoy what He gives (1 Timothy 6:17), but He wants us to find our security in Him and not in earthy wealth.
Kingdom giving is a key antidote to materialism. Kingdom giving does not see giving as being to the church for maintenance and the church’s ministries. It sees giving as being given to Jesus through the church that He might take it and use it in His plans and purposes to reach people. Kingdom giving is giving that is done for the glory of God, in His honor. Psalm 115:1 sums up the attitude of the Kingdom giver. “Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.” Be a Kingdom giver and watch God bless in many ways.
