Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you and example that you should do as I have done for you.” (John 13:14-15)
       Passage: Psalm 46:1-11

After I graduated from High School, I was hired as a custodian for my home church during the summer before heading off to college. I cleaned restrooms, vacuumed classrooms, ran a buffer to polish floors, dusted furnishing and more. I loved getting to work at our church facility and I gained a great appreciation for custodial work. It is vital work, but it is also not work that people expect to see the church pastor doing regularly, or in the business world, seeing people in upper management doing.

On the night, before He was crucified, Jesus gathered His disciples in an upper room of a home in Jerusalem where He would institute the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper for us to keep. Before He instituted that, Jesus did something that was even more surprising to the disciples than seeing a company CEO do the custodial cleaning. He washed their feet, which was a menial task assigned to the servant in a household. Jesus did that as an example for them and us, to show that our greatest impact will come through service we give. Set your heart to make an impact in your world and see God use you.
