Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter; Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)
Passage: Matthew 22:36-40
One of the stereotypes of preachers is often being known for long winded sermons. A question has been asked, “Do you know what it means when a preacher looks at his watch while he is preaching?” The answer is “Absolutely nothing.” King Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes as the Preacher, or Teacher, but when he said he was at the conclusion, he meant it and it summed up the wisdom of how to have a full and meaningful life in two simple things. “Fear God and keep His commandments.”
Solomon expressed what Jesus would tell a Pharisee who tried to test Him by asking, “What is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied with a response in Matthew 22:37-40 that is basically broken down in two simple things. Love God and love people. Whatever you do and wherever you go, the purposes of God are the same. He wants you to glorify Him and work with Him to build His Kingdom. Loving God is our upward relationship. Loving people is our outward response to be His representatives in our world. Be committed to fulfilling God’s purposes for your life and live a meaningful life for Him.
